Bulldog Weekly

October 6th - October 10th, 2025

Good evening Bulldog families!

Congratulations to our final Portrait of a Baron Students of the Week for the skill of Adaptability! This week’s winners are: AnnMarie DuBois, Natalee Woodward, Treyson McDaniel, Jude Kulwicki, Sophia Casas, Nolan Tuttle, Evie Gentis, and Stefan Lay. We are so proud of these students for showing flexibility and perseverance throughout the month of September. As we move into October, our Portrait of a Baron focus will shift to the skill of Communication.

A big thank you goes out to everyone who joined us for the McKenney-Harrison Block Party and Color Run. We had a wonderful time celebrating together, and we are incredibly grateful to our donors and to our PTO for organizing such a fantastic event!

This week promises to be another busy one as we head into Fall Break. All week we will be celebrating Kindness Week!! Students are encouraged to dress up to show awareness of bullying issues and to promote kindness of all kinds.

Monday-Team Up Against Bullying
Wear a jersey or a shirt with a number on it

Tuesday- Hat Day
Hats off to good choices

Wednesday- Spread Kindness Like Confetti
Wear polka dots OR bright colors

Thursday- Camo Day
Stop hiding and speak up against bullying

Friday- Blackout Bullying
Students and staff wear black to show unity against bullying.

On Tuesday, students will have the opportunity for picture retakes. Once photos are returned from the company, we’ll send home proofs with ordering information, so please be sure your child comes prepared if they need a retake.

Also on Tuesday evening, DeKalb High School will host the 10th annual Niles Walton Elementary Cross Country Race. This event is open to all K–5 students. The girls’ race begins at 6:00 PM and the boys’ race follows at 6:15 PM. Both races start at the high school course located behind the football field by the bus garage. If you are not already in Runner’s Club, please arrive early to register. Let’s have as many Bulldogs as possible participate so we can keep the traveling trophy right here at McKenney-Harrison!

On Wednesday morning at 9:00, our school will conduct the mandatory Active Intruder drill, as required by state statute. We will begin with a lockout procedure, where students remain in classrooms while school functions continue as normal, and then transition to a lockdown drill, during which students will practice relocating to a safe space (“hard corner”) in their classrooms. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about this important safety practice.

Later that day, we have two events in the evening. At 6:00 PM, our Duesenchords will perform their rescheduled Fair Week concert at James R. Watson Elementary School. Also at 6:00 PM, McKenney-Harrison will host a PTO meeting in the cafeteria. We know this creates a scheduling conflict, but it was the best option to ensure the performance could take place before Fall Break.

Finally, a reminder that Fall Break will take place October 13–17.
