My kindergartners have been learning to make inferences to help make a prediction. During the first week we made predictions using clues and what we know. The second week we looked for evidence in the text and circled the evidence in the text. Then we thought about what we know and finally made a prediction. The third week we constructed a written response to our prediction. We drew and labeled the evidence and then wrote down what we know. Then we used the evidence and what we already know to draw and label a prediction. We are in our fourth week and now we are making predictions before and during reading. We are learning that our predictions can change as we learn new information from the story. Just ask anyone in my class about predictions and they’ll be able to tell you how to make a good prediction!
