McKenney-Harrison Christmas Program Video!
4th-grade students at McKenney-Harrison learned about the flag and took a quiz on what they had learned as well as wrote a short essay about what the flag means to them. One boy and one girl winner were chosen by the American Legion to win a certificate, $25, and a reception in their honor later in the month.
These Bulldogs are being presented their awards for winning the American Legion's Flag Quiz and Essay contest!
Student Council sold candy grams in October and used the money to purchase Christmas gifts for a local family.
The McKenney-Harrison Elementary School PTO is pleased to announce the Dekko Foundation has pledged a $50,000 investment in the McKenney-Harrison Playground Equipment. The Dekko Foundation was the first funding request for the project, and the Dekko Foundation will pay out its pledge when the rest of the funds are in hand.
Led by the PTO, McKenney-Harrison students and staff have spent the last year brainstorming playground ideas, determining play component priority, reviewing playground proposals, and working with a playground vendor to design play equipment that best meets the students’ needs and wants.
Mrs. Sharon Smith, Program Director for the Dekko Foundation said, “Once we heard how the elementary students had been involved in the decision-making process for the project, we felt certain that this was a group of adults that considered children’s needs.”
“It is clear that our intentional student involvement left the Dekko Foundation impressed with our project, and we couldn’t be more excited about partnering with the Dekko Foundation!” said Mrs. Carrie Alday, Principal at McKenney-Harrison Elementary.
The PTO is raising $212,000 for the playground equipment and has launched several different fundraising campaigns this Fall. Besides seeking grants and donations from large organizations like the Dekko Foundation, the PTO is offering playground sponsorships to small and medium-sized organizations. There are about 25 sponsorship opportunities available ranging from $250 to $10,000. Thus far, Auburn Essential Services, DeKalb’s VOICE - Community Foundation of DeKalb County’s youth philanthropy group, Beacon Credit Union, Foley Pattern Co. Inc., ProActive Spine and Joint, Right-At-School, and Vision Source/Dr. Douglas C. Morrow have each sponsored a piece of the playground.
Personalized bricks are also available for purchase with all proceeds going toward the playground equipment. More information on the playground and the playground fundraisers, including brick order forms, is available at mck.dekalbcentral.com/playground or by calling the school office at 920-1015.
